Plastic Balls
• Polyamide (Nylon) Balls
• Acetal (Delrin and Celcon) Balls
• PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene / Teflon) Balls
• Polypropylene Balls
• Polyethylene Balls
Plastic balls are used in low load applications and flow control.
Colored plastic balls are used for identification purposes, and in
many medical applications. Plastic balls offer excellent fatigue
and corrosion resistance, impact strength and in many cases
natural lubricity. Hartford Technologies offers a complete line
of FDA-approved plastic balls in materials including nylon,
Delrin and other engineered plastics. All are available for
immediate delivery.

Finishes
Plastic balls are available in matte, rough and polished surfaces.
Polyamide (Nylon) Balls (101)
Profile
Nylon balls are insoluble in diluted mineral acids and most organic
acids, and common solvents. Nylon balls are exceptionally resistant
to alkalis, petroleum oil and greases at temperatures up to 300°F.
Acids such as lactic acid, photographic solutions, etc.,
have little or no effect.
Nylon balls are an excellent choice for applications that require a
lightweight, resilient and abrasion-resistant material that performs well
in hot, chemically aggressive and humid environments. Used without
lubrication, nylon balls provide greater toughness and ductility than
most plastics.
Nylon balls are also an environmentally favorable choice,
because of the way they are made, and can be reused.

Acetal (Delrin & Celcon) Balls
Profile
Acetal balls offer predictable mechanical, chemical and electrical properties
over a broad temperature range for extended periods of time. Acetal balls
exhibit good fatigue resistance, impact resistance, tensile and shear strength
and dimensional stability. They have very low moisture absorption characteristics.
Delrin Acetal balls maintain a natural lubricity, giving them a low coefficient
of friction against metals. Because of this, Acetal balls are used in pump,
valve, slide and rolling applications. Most resins used for Acetal balls meet
FDA, USDA and UL requirements. Acetalo balls are also referred to by the
names polyoxymethylene (POM) and polyacetal.
Delrin is a DuPont product: Celcon is a Hoechst Celanese product.

PTFE (Polytetraflouroethylene / Teflon) Balls
Profile
There are no known industrial acids or caustics that will attack Teflon,
and there is no known solvent for it. Teflon balls are recommended for
applications where lightweight, non-metallic, and erosion-resistant
properties are required. Teflon balls have a maximum work
temperature of 550°F.

Polypropylene Balls
Profile
Polypropylene balls have excellent chemical resistance and low density,
as well as the highest melting point of the volume thermoplastics.
Polypropylene balls also have high tensile strength. They are an
excellent electrical insulator, with low dielectric constant and loss factors.
Polypropylene balls are highly resistant to acids, alkalis, alcohols and
many inorganic chemicals, and are non-toxic.

Polyethylene (PE) Balls
Profile
Polyethylene balls are a low-cost thermoplastic alternative, providing
excellent abrasion resistance and high impact characteristics.
Polyethylene balls are used in many pharmaceutical, medical and
electronic applications, and in applications where it is desirable to
minimize the evaporation of exposed liquids, or to help maintain
liquid temperature. Polyethylene balls are also used to reduce
unpleasant odors. The smooth surface of polyethylene balls
prevents chemicals from depositing on their surface.
Colored Plastic Balls

Colored plastic balls can be manufactured in any custom color.
Natural plastic is standard.
Engineered Plastics such as Aurum, PEEK and Torlon are
other plastic balls manufactured by Hartford for high load,
high heat applications. Polyurethane and polycarbonate
are also available for plastic balls requirements.
