Standard and Custom Needle Bearing A needle bearing uses needle rollers,
rather than balls, as its rolling elements.

Hartford Technologies manufactures a needle
bearing for radial loads that demand a low profile
that is exceptionally easy to install.

A needle bearing decreases friction and efficiently transmits
torque in applications including off-highway and oil patch equipment,
drive shafts, outboard engines and air compressors. A high load needle
bearing is specified for applications that involve static loads, low speeds,
or oscillation.

A needle bearing uses needle rollers, rather than balls, as its rolling elements.

The needle bearing shown here is a critical component for a metal
strapping tensioner tool used to strap a metal band around a skid of product.
The needle bearing is located in the headset, at the hinge point. The material
for the outer race and rollers is chrome steel, hardened to Rc 60-62.

Previously, there had been a metal sleeve in the headset. Binding in the
headset was caused by the force required to pull the strapping to secure the
load to the skid. The needle bearing made for the application by Hartford
facilitated a smoother rotation of the headset and eliminated the binding.
As a result, a stronger strapping was achieved.

as the bearing races.

Long Cylindrical Roller and Cage Assemblies

A Roller and Cage Assembly – often called a wrist pin bearing – differs from
a standard radial needle roller and cage assembly in its longer length, which
distributes loads and provides additional axial support.

There are two main wrist pin bearing designs. A "full complement" wrist pin
bearing does not use a retainer. A "caged needle" wrist pin bearing uses a
cage or retainer to space the rollers and prevent needle-on-needle abrasion.
A wrist pin bearing has high lubricant capacity, so this product is well suited
for use in transmissions and other engine components.
