Plastic Bearings

Plastic bearings from Hartford Technologies are often an easy, “drop-in” replacement for bronze, steel and stainless steel bearings. These plastic bearings offer significant advantages for the user.

Plastic bearings are lighter in weight, non-magnetic, and have a low coefficient of friction which means it generates less heat. Plastic bearings often allow more flexible designs. And, they are highly resistant to dust, dirt, chemicals and corrosives. We engineer our highly-resilient plastic bearings to run permanently free of lubrication – making their long service life virtually maintenance-free.

Hartford plastic bearings are usable on many types of shafts and offer better vibration dampening than other alternatives. They also operate more quietly.

Hartford Technologies engineers and manufactures custom plastic bearings and bearing assemblies, in a wide range of dimensions. Modifications to standard bore or OD, or special features such as thin sections, can be engineered and prototyped quickly, thanks to Hartford’s advanced modeling software and bearing design prototype program.

Custom plastic bearing components include custom cages, races and rolling elements (balls, rollers).

For many of its plastic bearing programs, Hartford Technologies uses polyoxymethylene / Acetal / Delrin (POM), a semi-crystalline engineered polymer. This polymer combines high strength with superior impact and fatigue resistances.

Depending on the application, we also manufacture using:

We supply all of our plastic bearings in small to million-plus quantities and no one can top our two-continent logistics for fast-track programs.

Caution: there’s a significant difference between plastic bearings that are just “plastic-coated” and those that are manufactured from molded engineered polymer. Hartford uses only high-integrity, solid polymer material for its plastic bearings.
